Hey Guys,

I was having a heck of a time getting KNM to monitor ASA Devices. This is how I wound up fixing it.

Don't use ASDM. I couldn't get SNMP to work when configuring it via ASDM.

  1. Log into your ASA via SSH or Telnet
  2. Enter Enable and Configure Terminal Mode
  3. Enter these commands:
    1. snmp-server community *YOUR COMMUNITY NAME*
      1. Example Below
        1. snmp-server community networkmonitor
    2. snmp-server listen-port 161
    3. snmp-server host inside *IP ADDRESS OF THE KNM GATEWAY MACHINE ON YOUR NETWORK*
      1. Example Below
        1. snmp-server host inside 192.168.1.10
    4. snmp-server enable
    5. Test, verify it's working.
    6. Once Working, save the running config. (write mem)
    7. Now, setup the Device in KNM
      1. Under the Authentication Tab, set SNMP version to SNMP v2c, set your read community to whatever you named it (networkmonitor in my example). Put private in the Write community. Verify the Port is 161.
      2. Then, Apply the Cisco ASA Template. (The one I'm using is named Cisco ASA, with the description of "Performance and bandwidth monitoring of Cisco ASA Devices. Revision 4)

Hope this helps someone!
