AVG System Tray Icon

  • Hi, we have just upgraded to from KES 2.2 to KES 2.3 and the option from removing the AVG system tray icon has disappeared which from reading the release notes is a correct.

Is there a script to remove this anayone could please provide? or a registry key I can change to do this? I could stop the below exe from running at boot up but AVG reckon this will return with automatic avg updates?

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\wow6432Node\Micrsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\AVG TRAY

    Thanks

  • This setting appears to be controlled by the file "C:\ProgramData\AVG2012\Cfg\user.cfg" which cannot be modified directly. However, you can disable the tray icon with AVG Settings Manager and then copy the file out to any endpoint you choose. The registry value you mentioned seems to have no impact whether it exists or not.

You can launch the AVG Settings Manager GUI from here: "C:\Program Files (x86)\AVG\AVG2012\avgsetmgr.exe"

There is also a command-line utility which is super interesting: "C:\Program Files (x86)\AVG\AVG2012\avgsetmgrcmd.exe"

    Switches:

Store AVG configuration to file: -g <full path of pck file>

Apply AVG configuration from file: -s <full path of pck file>

    Apply ADVUI configuration: -a

    Apply also FW configuration: -f

Recovery password protection: -r <full path of rsc file>

    Notes:

Recovery is possible only together with -g or -s parameters.

When you are storing pck file, the path specified must exist.

    Usage examples:

    avgsetmgrcmd.exe -g c:\configuration.pck        ... store advui + fw cfg

    avgsetmgrcmd.exe -s c:\configuration.pck        ... apply only advui cfg

    avgsetmgrcmd.exe -s c:\configuration.pck -a     ... apply only advui cfg

    avgsetmgrcmd.exe -s c:\configuration.pck -f     ... apply only fw cfg

    avgsetmgrcmd.exe -s c:\configuration.pck -a -f  ... apply advui + fw cfg

    avgsetmgrcmd.exe -r c:\allowed.items.rsc -s c:\cfg.pck

... apply only advui cfg and rescue password from the rescue file

  • Cool, thanks for the detailed reply. I'll give that a try.

    Cheers again.
