Recently we moved to a new KServer - our old one died. Rather than resurrect our current backup of KServer installation and SQL database that is 5 years old, we decided to start clean with everything fresh, from the ground up. We reinstalled hundreds of agents via LAN Watch and everything went well, except for a few dozen machines are giving us AVG headaches.
Most machines let us reinstall AVG over the top of the previous KServer's KES/AVG install but these 40 machines out of 700 will not allow us to uninstall or reinstall - we get a "KES Ownership Check" or "Application Conflict (file 'AVG Technologies\AVG Anti-Virus Network Edition...) error back. Eventually, I can manually visit or remote each machine to do a manual clean uninstall, but I am wondering if anyone knows a way around this problem.
I'm hoping someone knows an INI, CFG, or some other file that can be deleted or edited to allow our new KServer to reinstall and not have a problem with the prior install. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.
Can you run Verify Install? If not, try running a Baseline Audit first. I've had some success with it in these scenarios.
Well, SMason, I knew that Verify Install would update older version 5.xx installs and also help when a previous standalone version was installed on a target machine, but I did not realize that it would attempt to recoup and verify a previous KServer KES/AVG installation. Very interesting. So far Verify alone has worked on 12 of the 40~ machines. I will continue on the rest now that I have had positive results.
Thanks for the suggestion! I'll let you know if any do NOT work and I try Baseline/Verify again and what those results are. Thanks again!
After following the SMason's advice, I have successfully gotten KES/AVG to install on about 37 of the 40 machines - the rest can be done manually. Thanks again, SMason! Problem resolved.
