Offsite only incremental tibs and not the full tibs?

  • Hello everyone,
Your advice would be appreciated. We are backing up an SBS with one full backup monthly and incrementals in between. We physically move the full backups once a month to our data center. What we want is to move only the incrementals over the Internet to the data center, preferably nightly. Has anyone automated a copy of only incremental tibs to an offsite location? If so, how did you chose to do it?
    Thank you.

  • The offsite replication software is smarter than you give it credit for. Tell it to mirror the entire folder where your TIBs are. When you physically copy the full image, the offsite software will see that it exists, verify it against the copy in the source folder, and then copy just the remaining items in the folder. The full image will not be overwritten in your data center just because the offsite software didn't create it.

The only "catch" I would mention is that just to be safe, we pause the offsite transfer before we start the copy from the USB disk to the data center storage, and then just resume it when the copy is done.
