Upgraded to 18.104.22.168. Clicking on an agent icon now brings us directly to Live Connect. Is this by design, and can we switch it back to remote control? RC via LC is much slower than direct RC.
I do not believe this to be by design, on my 22.214.171.124 systems this is not the behavior I am seeing - but I could be mistaken.
Additionally, in the release notes of this patch I do not see any fixes that would have changed this behavior.
I would advise to create a support ticket. (You may want to try and re-apply the patch again as well)

We have a ticket open but no advice as of yet. We were able to work around this by setting Kaseya to use the classic version of Live Connect. Remote Control now behaves correctly and connects at full speed, but we're stuck with the plugin version of Live Connect. I'll hold off on re-applying the patch. A speedy RC is more important to us right now.

We re-applied patch 126.96.36.199 last night. While doing so, we noticed an agent update was available (188.8.131.52). Agents upgraded to that version fixes the remote control problem.
