Windows Service Status (WMI)

This question is answered

Hi there

I hope someone could help me.

In our DMZ I like to monitor some Servers (2012 R2 and 2008 R2). Both Servers arn't in our Domain. They are in a Workgroup.
Now I able to monitor the most of the WMI Sensors. But not all Windows Services! The Services vom 3rd Party Solutions arn't avabilbe...

What I've done:

Add a new local Admin on the DMZ Servers and on the Traverse Server with the same Username and Password

Then I've do this: http://knowledgebase.solarwinds.com/kb/questions/3304/How+to+create+a+non-administrator+user+for+SAM+polling.

Firewall is off

LAN to DMZ any any

If I use the bulit-in Administrator, everything working perfect. But Its better to use a separate Admin User, you know.

I'm sure its a little thing...

Thanks for help

  • Hi Nicolas

    Thanks for reply.

Yes, the uniquely created Account wasn't able to monitor ALL Services.

No, I've don't try to use WBEM.

In the meantime I've found the Solution.... Its was so quite easy.

After I've made all the settings (see the Link above in my first Post), I only have to run winrm quickconfig in the CMD. After this, everything works fine

  • Hey

So from my understanding of your problem, the built-in Admin account is able to monitor some third-party services running on the Windows OS.

However, when you use a uniquely created account with restricted privileges it is not picking up these third party services, but is able to pick up the others?

Out of curiosity have you tried connecting and querying this information using WBEMTest utility with both user credentials?

    http://blogs.technet.com/b/chad/archive/2012/03/08/tip-45-wbemtest-the-underappreciated-tool.aspx

It may provide an error that will lead you in the right direction.

We have our own detailed write up in the following KB with some steps on how to use WBEMTest as well:

Let me know if you see any errors from WBEMTest or in the event logs.

    Best Regards,
