Patch Post-Installation Reboot Required - Really???

  • Getting emails from K following Automatic Updates however I wonder if in many cases this is true.

    1. Looking at the Patch Status frame prior to rebooting - there is no indication a reboot is required

    2. The machine rebooted without any "Configuring Windows Updates" messages.

So, was a reboot necessary? Who knows.

If this was done from MS Update I would have reliably known whether or not a reboot was required, now I'm not so sure.

The Patch status page showing that a machine needs a reboot is dependant on what the exit code is (I think).

I've had sevral machines that have needed reboots and did not have the "configuring windows updates" splashes. Actually outside of vista/7 I think that every install of xp has done this to me at one time or another.
