Monitoring Event Logs

  • Our company has just started using Kaseya in a Managed services role integrated with ConnectWise. During our testing we have been trying to find the best way to monitor event logs on servers so we can get notifications of errors or warnings, but not get duplicates. We also have been looking at what kinds of alerts we should use.

As we are new users, we wanted to see how others had their event log monitoring set up so we can get the error and warning information we need, but not be inundated with so many tickets that we cannot effectively manage issue.

  • Is there that has an ignore event set that they are utilizing and willing to post here? We are also actively looking on how to get our noise cancelled. We are currently doing a catch all and then an ignore list. We are maybe switching to making specific lists for specific things we do want to get alerted on. Any suggestions and ideas are appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Daniel

  • Use the following settings:

Set "Alert when" to "this event occurs 1 time(s) within 1 day" (second option)
Set "Ignore additional events for 1 day".

This will cause only one alarm per unique event within any 24 hour period.

Note that if you get multiple events with the exact same ID at the exact same time, you may still get duplicates.

  • We already set it up that way, we are mainly concerned about noise and I wonder how other people are dealing with this. We are receiving about 300 to 800 alert on a daily basis from all our managed servers and workstations. It takes quite some time for our engineers to work through that list. If someone already has an ignore list that does the work properly, I would definitely be interested to get a copy of that.

    Thanks,
    Daniel

  • the noise is a pain. also, we have an ignore list built for each engineer to not only allow us to audit ignored event rules but kaseya has a limitation that the super-user is the only one that can touch all of the rules. its a pain but keeps things granular.
