Upgrading to Internet Explorer 8

  • Hello,

I am looking for a script that will upgrade users to IE 8 but also complete or disable the initial setup page notification. I'm a novice when it comes to Kaseya and scripting in general and have tried searching the forum for something similar to what I am trying to do. Any help and additional resources on Kaseya scripting would be appreciated. Thanks all!

  • You can disable it in the registry or with Group Policy after the install:

  • Your script might look something like this. Keep in mind, this only covers Windows XP and you will need different entries for other operating systems. You will also need the appropriate install files on your KServer.

    Script Name: Install: IE8
    Script Description:

    IF True
    THEN
    Write File
    Parameter 1 : c:\temp\ie8.exe
    Parameter 2 : VSASharedFiles\IE8-WindowsXP-x86-ENU.exe
    OS Type : 8
    Execute File
    Parameter 1 : c:\temp\ie8.exe
    Parameter 2 : /quiet /norestart
    Parameter 3 : 3
    OS Type : 8
    Delete File
    Parameter 1 : c:\temp\ie8.exe
    OS Type : 8
    Set Registry Value
    Parameter 1 : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\DisableFirstRunCustomize
    Parameter 2 : 1
    Parameter 3 : REG_DWORD
    OS Type : 8
    Reboot
    OS Type : 8
    ELSE

  • I use the IEDK to create the deployment package then push that out.

  • You guys are awesome! Thanks! I was able to find what I needed to do with the registry but wasn't quite sure how to script that in Kaseya. But looks to be really simple from what you guys have posted. Again, thanks for the help.
