Wake on Lan - Kaseya Machine Group

  • Steve,
I am testing this on a group that contains 1 server and 4 clients all in Kaseya. I have scheduled the script to run on the server, two of the clients are powered down. This is the result I get:
6/12/2009 9:48:43 AM - Running Wake Up Group script.
6/12/2009 9:48:43 AM - Attempting to wake up PCs in acorn.*.
6/12/2009 9:48:43 AM - Attempted to wake up 0 PCs.
    What is wrong?
Thanks so much for your help.

  • I checked the temp drive on the server and the rw.exe is there, but no vbs files.

  • I am so stupid!
The offline clients are on a WLAN not connected to the same subnet as the server.
    Doh!
    I'll test again.

  • OK nevermind I get the same result with the clients connected to the LAN.
It looks like the script is running correctly but I am not getting the desired results.

  • for the groupname variable just use acorn .. no need for the .*

  • yeah i tried that too.
It still doesn't work, but that could just be WOL in general.
    I'll keep trying next week.
    Thanks again.

  • Try running the asp manually .. then check the maclist.txt on the server

    ie:
    http://your.kserver.com/updatemaclist.asp

Did you verify that WOL is enabled in the BIOS?

  • The results you posted earlier suggest you are not returning any machine macs
The email tells you what was attempted, not what was woken

You should get an error if run the asp and the sql cannot connect ... i am thinking this is the likely issue
Have you enteted the SQl connection information

  • @howard
WOL is enabled in the BIOS

    Steve,
I manually pointed a browser on the server at https://ourkaseyaserver/updatemaclist.asp
I think it ran, after loading for some time I was redirrected to the login page.
The MacList.txt file in our managed files directory is blank.
I did edit the SQL info with our server/instance name I think we are using the default instance 'MSSQLSERVER' and the kaseyaviews password.
    Thanks again.

  • Doesnt sound like it is running. You should get something like -

"Wrote 1000 MAC addresses to file"

Not sure why you are being asked to login?? This may be the issue..
if it is in the same place as your public kaseya files cant see why the sucurity prompt??

  • I followed the instructions you posted and everything seems to work fine. Thanks for sharing this Steve.

  • I figured it out. Instead of SQLSERVERNAME\INSTANCENAME I just needed my SQLSERVERNAME since we are using the default instance.
    I will test again. Thanks!

  • Emerson,

I'm having the same problem that you were having.

http://server/updatemaclist.asp sends me to the Kaseya login page.

My maclist.txt is also not getting populated.

How did you get around that?
