Silent Adobe Update

  • anyone devise a way to silently install the new adobe reader update?

  • Hey,

    First of all, just go and download the latest adobe reader. No need to sign up for anything, just make it download the full 35MB installer.

    Next, run it. You'll notice it extracts before coming up with the first question about installing.

    When this happens, fire up Search, and find *.msi, be sure to include hidden files etc. Be sure to leave the installer open and copy it out before closing.

    Once you find the Adobe Reader MSI, grad the whole folder out and you should be away.

    You should be able to get away with a script that drops the files you need (maybe just the MSI, you might need others, just experiment) and then play around with your msiexec switches to see if you want logging etc. a simply "msiexec /i adobereader.msi /quiet" should do the trick.

    The machine did have to have the latest 9.1 installed before pushing/running this .msi, but it works well.
