Script to block website...

  • Hi,

I am trying to block all social networking sites as well as selling sites from my computers.

Anybody know of a good script I can use?

    Thanks

  • Use OpenDNS and save yourself the trouble. You can create a script that will echo certain entries to the hosts file, but then you have to maintain that list. A bunch of people around here use OpenDNS. We certainly do, and we'd highly recommend it. They let you block categories (social networking, pornography, phishing, etc.), and brand the pages with your company's own logos and messages. They're a free service, you can't really go wrong. See: http://www.opendns.com.

  • I think you are right...after nearly wasting my day looking for a perfect script, i think OpenDNS is the way to go.

What I dont like about it is the tedious process of authenticating each and every network. I have about 50 networks in my company all with different IP's.

    Thanks though.

  • You could do what has been done in the past for this solution - make changes to the hosts file to block certain websites and roll these changes out via Kaseya.
