Change local admin passwords

  • Does anyone have a script that could be run to change all local admin passwords to a (preset, included in the script) unique password on a group of desktops?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Try the "Net user" command. You should be able to use this in a script to change any local user password on Windows 2000 and XP machines.

Might be a good idea to check the syntax on the different OS's as YMMV on different version of Windows.

  • If you know the username of the admin accounts you can always use the built-in reset password option on the remote control tab to change the passwords. Otherwise, the other post is correct and you will need to write a script to change the passwords. I would suggest writing a simple VB script or program to query the list of users in the local administrators group using the command “net localgroup administrators”. I hope that helps.
