Disable USB Ports?

  • Hi. I have a few machines that i would like to disable the usb ports on. One is WInXp and one is Win2000. There is a threat from an employee of hooking up a external drive and copying contents from the local hard drive or network.

Is there a way in Kaseya to diable the usb ports on the local machine?

  • You can create a script that sets the registry key (DWORD)HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\UsbStor\Start

4 = disable USB storage devices (other USB devices will work)

3 = enable USB storage devices

    You can also disable CDROM/Burners using HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\CDROM\Start (4=disable, 3=enable)

  • I did exactly as you described, but when a user has connected a usb storage device it worked. Does anyone know why?
