Mac tips - add entry to system log

  • I thought I'd start a thread to add useful tip for mac agent procedures.

You can add an entry in to the Mac OS X system logs (/var/log/system.log) by executing the following command:
/usr/bin/logger -t 'VSA' comment text here

    Hope it's useful to someone...

  • Thanks Simon, nice tip!

We use the following commands in scripts:

    Make a screenshot:

    /usr/sbin/screencapture -t jpg /tmp/screenshot.jpg

    Run Disk Utility maintenance:

    /usr/sbin/diskutil repairPermissions > /tmp/diskutil_repairpermissions.log

    /usr/sbin/diskutil verifyVolume > /tmp/diskutil_verifyVolume.log

Run OSX maintenance scripts (runs default between 03:15 and 05:30. If machine is turned off during these hours these script will not run. )

    /usr/sbin/periodic daily weekly monthly
