Need to monitor hard drive health

  • Hello.

I need to monitor hard drive health in workstations. I need to know if a hard drive is "about" to fail. I was wondering if someone has already done this kind of monitoring? If so can you provide any information?

    Thanks

  • We have a 'Disk Drive Alerts' monitor set, I'm not sure if this came with Kaseya, but we generate an alert based on this monitor set.

    Seems to work pretty well!

  • The disk drive alert monitor set scans the event logs (system logs) for disk errors that have been recorded by Windows. You can also scan the forum for another method of detecting drive errors.

  • You can also do SNMP. I use SNMP to monitor power supply, RAID Arrays, etc. You just have to know what OIDs the status is.

  • And if you search the forums a bit you should see the SMART scripts we came up with a while ago. It's not a guaranteed way to find dying workstation drives, but we have caught a couple of impending failures so far.
