BIOS Version Information

  • I support one client that has 80 + Dell machines (desktops and laptops together). I want to be able to pull the BIOS revision numbers from these machines. How can I get this information? Is there a script out there that will perform these functions or do I need to pull something from Microsoft in the form of a vbs script?

  • Yes. Dell OMCI has to be installed on your managed machines. You can use a vbscript to access the BIOS revision and remotely update the BIOS as well. Google OMCI and you'll find what you're looking for.

  • You do not need OMCI to get this info. Here is a script that I wrote using a 3rd party utility to get this information,. I ran this on all my Dells and HPs.

    This is the free tool

    http://www.pxserver.com/WinAudit.htm

    Here is the script

Script Name: System Info - Dell - WinAudit
Script Description: This script runs Winaudit to get BIOS and other System information for the machine.

    IF True
    THEN
    Write File
    Parameter 1 : \winaudit.exe
    Parameter 2 : VSASharedFiles\Tools\WinAudit.exe
    OS Type : 0
    Execute Shell Command
    Parameter 1 : \winaudit.exe /r=gbm /o=text /f=\BIOS.txt
    Parameter 2 : 1
    OS Type : 0
    Get Variable
    Parameter 1 : 1
    Parameter 2 : \BIOS.txt
    Parameter 3 : content
    OS Type : 0
    Get Variable
    Parameter 1 : 6
    Parameter 2 :
    Parameter 3 : machine
    OS Type : 0
    Send Email
    Parameter 1 :zzzz@zzzz.com
Parameter 2 : System INFO for Dell Wrks Including BIOS for #machine#

  • Great stuff. Thank you very much. Is there a way to parse out the information that is provided by this utility and have it entered into the database under the view for System Info for a field called BIOS Rev?

    Thanks in advance.
