Monitoring Hard drives within an Raid, but not the raid itself.

This question is answered

Hi Peeps.

Hit a bit of an issue when monitoring the performance of hard drives within a Raid and not the raid itself.

We monitor the raid with the event logs which i know isnt perfect but does the job.

When monitoring single drive setups, we use the % disk time value for the logical disk but when doing the same on a raid we recieve values above 100% which is perfectly normal, but of no use to us.

So what i am wondering is how everyone else achieves this and how we can apply this large scale.

Any help would be appreciated.

  • you should ask yourself what you want to monitor. For monitoring individual drives within a raidset you are dependent on the tools provided by the manufacturer of the raidcard you use. For every different raidcard you should configure different monitorsets.

so you have to find out which value you want to monitor for your raidcard and than set this value in monitoring in K.
