User monitor?

  • Does anyone know of a way to monitor whether or not a user is logged in? We have a client that uses a piece of software that requires a certain user to be logged in, if this user isn't logged in certain parts of the program do not run and cause issues.

  • You can create a script to simply pipe %username% to a file, read that file contents and test if it equals the appropriate user. You'll wan to have it run as current user and don't user credentials. Use a second script to check the value and send an email if it doesn't match what you want.

Write an event log and then monitor for the specific event log to get an alert.

  • Another approach might be to see if the program in question runs as a process instead of a service (thus requiring a user to be logged in). In this case you can set up a Monitor Set to watch for the running process.
