Network Utilization Driver

  • I am reluctant to install this on all of our managed machines. Has anyone had issues? I'm worried about applications suddenly not working and/or performance issues.

  • We have itenabled on a little over 1000 desktops... There were active directoryissues back in revision 4.3, but since 4.4, we have had no issues with it at all.Our normal setup is Notify User, Enable Driver, Approve All. This will not block any apps, but still collect stats. We then change the configuration and aggressively block on specific machines or groups depending on a clients request or troubleshooting an issue. We are blocking apps on a few of those machines, for example a popular bit torrent application, but the rest are basically just collecting data statistics. We alsoinclude ascheduled Machine Bandwidth Report and Application Bandwidth Report along with the Executive Report to many of our clients.

For servers, though weonly have it enabled on specific types such as ftp or web and only on 3 or 4 so we have less experience if there would be any issues on a server.

I would like to see some more development in which we could assign alert values to specific applications or machines. If they exceed an alloted allowance it will send an email. It could help to spot desktops turned into mail servers, proxy servers orhas a virus.

  • Thanks. Is there a particular reason that you don't do it on servers?

  • I believe there are some patch level requirements for the driver to function correctly on servers.
