So I finally had a chance to use KID today and it worked fine. I made an image of a computer that is brand new and was restored onto an older computer that is about three years old if no older. The new hard drive has solid state as well. I was reading about potential conflicting reports about restoring to dissimilar hardware, although this one time test did not have an issue. Is that related to XP more or less? The reason I ask is a mutual client of ours has a mix of Windows 7 machines and XP machines and they want all of them upgraded to solid state drives. I guess my question is will there be any issues with using KID in such scenario as this? I'm somewhat in a hurry as a week from now were supposed to have this done.........

We are moving to Kaseya from Altiris. We are used to deploying one hardware independent image using Altiris for over 30 different models of computer. With Altiris, we inject the drivers into the image after the image has been laid down, but prior to the machine booting. We are able to accomplish this same task using FOG, an open source imaging solution. For many reasons, we want to use Kaseya, as we hope to use many modules of Kaseya that FOG or Altiris do not offer.

We thought we had this cracked...on the repository server, we were modifying the initrd file structure to include our custom code that would inject these drivers. However, it appears that each time KID is called, the initrd file is created and replaced dynamically by a static version of initrd, presumably from the primary Kaseya server. When looking at the initrd file on the main Kaseya server, it is actually an initrd.exe file, which i can look at with 7-zip, but when I try to extract that file using gzip or cpio in linux, I cannot extract the file. We talked on the phone to support today, but they weren't able to offer much help. we obviously realize that modifying the initrd structure is not a supported solution, but using the current imaging process in Kaseya is just not going to work for us.

Seeing that there isn't much movement in this forum, what is everyone else using for imaging? I'm surprised there aren't more people pushing for Kaseya as an imaging solution, just to try and get more things under one umbrella, but maybe we are the exception. By the way, we are a school district with 7 tech staff members for over 5,000 computers, so efficiency is the name of the game for us, hence our desire to have one product that can do most everything. Obviously the alternative is to continue using Altiris (don't want to pay for more licensing) or FOG (which does seem to work well for imaging), but it just becomes a bit more complex having to use more than one product.

Thanks for any thoughts.

When i start the deploy job I see the HTTPDownloader process and then once it disappears the job shows up failed. No folder is
created for the repository that i specified for the images and VirtualBox isnt installed. Only the mgmt\temp folder\files. In
C:\mgmt\temp\ImageDeploy i do see a file named VirtualBox-4.0.6-71416-Win.exe.part but it is 0 KB so seems like
HTTPDownloader is having some issues recieving that file. In my previous support ticket a tech editted the files on the server to
point to the servers https address and that got the first repository working. It is a 2008 R2 box, there is no Hyper-V or AD stuff on
it. Its just a plain member server with no roles or features. Anyone have any ideas what is wrong? Thanks!

I know you cant take an image with a large drive and deploy it to a smaller drive. So I was thinking of making a smaller drive image for deployment but that leaves another problem, having to expand every drive to its max size.. Im trying to find a way to do this all in the image process to require as little hands on as possible.. Any ideas? Thanks!

The server is a dual-NIC machine, one NIC goes to a production LAN to enable it to be contrroled by the KAseya Server, the other NIC is on a seperate network through a dedicated switch.

The server has a DHCP address on Production and a static address on local. The Server is a DHCP server.

When I try to create a new repository, it fails at 75% stating that it failed to activate the repository. The image directory is filled with a VM machine.

When I try to activate the repository manually, it fails at 99% with the error message:

"Failed to assign an Agent id to Linux VM"

Anyone come across this one before and any clues as to how to resolve it?

Cheers,

My initial impressions of it is that it is still a "Beta" solution and its still full of bugs.
