  • Hello Meghana,

where can i find the release information about KAV 1.3?

  • I think major difference is in centralized management features what Business version has. Hoping to see more managing options in Kaseya in future. Also hoping to see multiplatform support, Apple, Linux and Mobile.

  • Its always good news to hear that an updated version of a Kaseya module is coming soon. And I'm very happy to see the survey - it shows that Kaseya is listening to the community to drive product features and enhancements.

  • @Kai,   We are still working on KAV1.3 release related info. Kaspersky claims Business version as Robust/Stable compared to Client version.  Also like Tomi mentioned here  above, it provides more centralized management features. From a product development stand point,  it provides the API to helps us implement more features for the forthcoming releases.

    Thanks

    Meghana

  • @Meghana: Thanks. I'm waiting for a release in March?

  • K-12 shop looking at Kaseya and currently have a test environment setup.  AV is one of the major features that I'm looking at with Kaseya as my current AV contract is just about up.  Maybe I'm reading some of the forum posts wrong, but it looks as if KES is pretty much end-of-life and KAV 1.3 which isn't out yet is running on Kaspersky ver 6? I thought Kaspersky business was running ver 8.1 now?  Is it that far behind or am I not comparing apples to apples?  I don't want to make assumptions...

  • @Freestyle18: You have a point... I'm seeing the same thing on Kasepersky's business pages:

    http://usa.kaspersky.com/products-services/business/kaspersky-security-applications

Kaseya... can you confirm whether or not we're comparing apples to apples?  Is it a fair comparison to say that Kaseya is just now implementing the 6.X engine when an 8.X engine is available for business machines?

  • :) wouldn't suprise us.... look at KES

  • Please tell me this is not true....I can only hope we aren't getting an AV product two versions behind already.

  • Meghana... can you confirm (or correct) what freestyle18 posted?

  • community.kaseya.com/.../67206.aspx

  • Version 8 of the business Edition was only Released in Nov 2011 by the looks of some forum posts.  Based on the fact they need to re-work code to switch to the business editions of the products, I can see why they picked the version 6 as a starting point.  From a development standpoint, starting to re-work code the month the product releases is probably going to drive the developers off the deep end when they hit undocumented "features"

In this case, going with version 6 is safer for a smooth rollout and then do the incremental changes to version 8 (once its had a chance to bake)

Technically its only 1 version behind current (since version 7 got lost in the Kaspersky numbering scheme I think)

  • Regarding the Version 8, we are working with Kaspersky to get the current version. Version 6 is the latest OEM partner version currently provided from Kaspersky.

Due to that reason, I don't have a specific time frame regarding the KAV implementation with Kaspersky Version 8. Will keep you all posted with the upcoming releases.

  • Just to clarify, if we have an existing KAV 1.2 install.  Once we install the new 1.3:

Do we need a new license key?

New installs will get the Workstation version, existing will stay on the consumer version

We can upgrade to Business edition as required or as we go?

  • A few things

    - We are making progress on version 8.  Look to have that included out later this year.

    - KAV 1.2-->KAV 1.3.  Just download the server installer to your VSA and you can upgrade the Kaspersky 2010 to Workstation version 6 (with its new features)

    - New installs will get worktation 6.  Existing installed endpoints remain unchanged and you can still manage them the same.

    - Eventually, we'll push folks to upgrade to the new endpoints...but that day is not yet.  Personally, the behavioral engine continues to improve in Kaspersky with each version.

    - No new license key required - just install it.

    Jeff

  • KAV 1.3 running and seems to work fine.

Anti-Virus 2010 -> Anti-Virus 6.0 update seems to reboot computer two times without a way to notify end user. Could Kaseya look for a way to add simple YES/NO dialog into upgrade procedure? It would be so much better if user would get a question if  this is a good time to reboot computer.

  • @Tomi

Make sense. Forwarding the request to development team.

    Thanks,

    Meghana Subramanian

  • Password protection of the Kaspersky client on the endpoint is enabled by default. This prevents unauthorized attempts by endpoint users to disable protection, change the settings, or uninstall the application. Password protection can be manually disabled on the endpoint, if necessary, by using a Kaseya provided password.

Would kinda be helpful to have that....albility to provide client with the password (or a reset password would be good)

Remember the client owns the machine, and has right to the password for their company..but having it for all companies isn't all that appropriate

Edit - Opened a ticket, the guys on support desk didn't really know it, although they recommended I try the uninstall password and get back to them.  That does appear to be the password.

  • How can we disable the password protection?  I am getting complaints and would prefer to have the end user just click "allow always" and not have it require a password.

  • Don't do the 1.3 Update! More is broke in 1.3 than in 1.2. KES was much better int he management. Sadly the AV engine was not keeping intrusions out.

Just spent the morning cleaning up false positives on 1.3 that killed many line of business applications.

  • @John-   Couple of days ago some false detection was fixed by Kaspersky through an update.  I am suspecting the machines those faced the issue had problem in updating. We are working with Kaspersky to resolve random update issue we are seeing. Is there any chance that we can do some trouble shooting on your server today to figure out wherther it was caused due to outdated update def? Please send an email with details/ticket number to meghana.subramanian@kaseya.com.

@Michael & Mark - In KAV1.3 password protection is enabled by default. We faced Kaspersky api limitation to enable/disable this through profile during the KAV1.3 release time line and decided to stick with the Option 1 below for the release. We are working to improve the feature here and planning to get  [Option 2 ] this out as fast as possible. Not promising a time frame b/c of the dependency with Kaspersky fix.

    •    Option 1-     Provide users with KLUNINSTPASSWD password to allow them to make changes by themselves [KAV1.3]

    •      Option 2 -   Control user activity by <EnableInteraction> settings parameter

  • The one client we tried deploying 1.2 onto caused serious problems for their client/server software. I'd add exclusion rules for the local and mapped path as well as adding it to their trusted applications list. It still found a way to corrupt server side files and generally decrease the response time.

I upgraded to 1.3, but at this point I'm only trusting it with internal machines, not clients.

Any client could google "Kaseya Kaspersky uninstall" and get the uninstall password from here. Can we at least change the pw?

  • Is there a way to globally disable the password protection for all newly installed endpoints?

  • as per the KAV 1.3 sticky post

Auto password protection is enabled in KAV1.3. The end user doesn’t have the capability to make any changes to this. Is there a work around if we do want to change it?

Password protection in KAV1.3 prevents the end user from making changes to the local AV settings on their machine. For example if they try to uninstall the Antivirus client manually from the managed machine, they are prompted for a password.   KAV1.3 does not allow you to turn off password protection in the Kaseya UI. Managing password protection on selected operations through the Kaseya UI will be in a future release. The recommended workaround if you do need to allow local changes is to give the password to the end-user for them to do any modification. If you don’t know the password, it’s the same uninstall password as listed in the built-in help doc.

  • I understand that you cannot turn off password protection in the Kaseya UI.

Because you can modify the Kaseya branding I was hoping there would be a password setting that could be modified there as well.

  • I am running IT Center on SAAS3. What version of KAV do I have, and when is an update expected?

  • I noticed from this FAQ community.kaseya.com/.../10830.aspx  that KAV 1.2 did not support Terminal Servers.  Does 1.3 still not support Terminal Servers?  What other types of servers does it not support?

  • I believe TS is still a version or two off, if I recall the information from KC2012 correctly

  • @kuuser -  Terminal server is not supported in KAV1.3.   I have updated the FAQ with details...Please refer community.kaseya.com/.../14918.aspx

  • Is there an update on KAV 1.4?  The lack of control in KAV 1.3 is really becoming a major hindrance.
