Email Monitoring

  • Has anyone succesfully set email monitoring/testing in Kaseya, say send an email every 10 minutes and if it doesnt get to its destination you get an alert, is this even possible with Kaseya?

Using Kaseya to test for an NDR? Didn't know that was possible. Woudn't it be easier to ping test the server?

  • You can monitor the server directly for things like queue delays, excess workload, pagefile thrashing, etc... I don't think there's a specific function for NDRs.

Should be easy enough to rig up though:

Have a script that routinely sends the test e-mail with a very specific keyword in the body (some random garbage) and filter out that e-mail (using the keyword) on the recipient end. Then set the e-mail account used by Kaseya to forward the NDR to whatever alert e-mail you want. You could run the script on any computer you want, it won't matter as long as it's on-line, use one of your servers.

Of course, this requires access to the recipient's server, or at least some limited co-operation to set up the filter so they don't get spammed to death with the test messages. Junkmail filters will catch this fast enough, be careful you don't get yourself put on a blacklist with this.

  • What I was looking for was something, say if the email didnt get to the recipients server within a time frame that it would alert is that possible?

  • yes, we've build this in 2006. it's a check on application level.
send an e-mail, auto respond, receive and check roundtrip time.
you could even graph in a nice way.
it's not within Kaseya, but you can build it.
