How to migrate Kaseya from MSDE 2000 to SQL Server 2005

  • Hi guys,

I just upgraded our Kaseya to 2008 and now we are experiencing slowness, database growing quickly and reaching 2GB limit for MSDE 2000. We applied all the hotfixes as recommended but the DB is still around 2GB. We are thinking of upgrading to SQL server 2005 and i have been searching everywhere on Kaseya for any KB or doc to no avail. I am wondering if anyone has done this or shed some light.

Thanks in advance for your help.

  • (off-topic: of course Kaseya chose a KB system that doesn't allow you to use shortcuts into it. Roll Eyes)

The article #279393 indicates that to upgrade from MSDE ot SQL Express, you can just follow the Technet article: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/sql/2005/msde2sqlexpress.mspx

Also see this as it is your exact question:

BTW, all of this came up on the first page of a Google search.

  • When you reach the top of msde (around 2056/2061MB) and the system crashes vsa give you an online brief on how to perform the upgrade. It says that you have to uninstall kaseya deleting data and then reinstall kaseya (without msde) restoring the last backup. We done this four days ago, but the restore failed many times, so we restored manually ksubscribers db and now it's running fine.
I don't unterstand why the size of our database decreased from 2GB to 900 MB after upgrading to ms-sql without apparently data loss.

  • Auto data shrink freeing up unused DB space, most likely.

  • Hello,

I just recently began parusing these forums so I apologize if this has been covered elsewhere.

one of our engineers here was advised over the phone by Kaseya to NOT host the database on a dedicated sql box. has anyone else run into this? is there a down side to hosting the database elsewhere? I personally am of the school of hosting like applications on dedicated boxes (sql on sql, web on iis etc)

is there a down side to this?

    any help would be appreciated

    Thanks
