Does the email server for alerts need to be smpt, or can it be pop3 or imap? Can the email server be external? TIA.

As far as I am aware you can not change what email server Kaseya uses. It must use the SMTP server in IIS to send all its email. That is why it is a requirement.
God Bless,
Marty

Additionally via email standards you actually cannot *send* email through pop3. That particular protocol isintended for *receiving* email.
While you theoretically *can* send through imap, it is not as simple as SMTP.

My question is, under "System Tab", "Admin Settings", "Preferences", "Set email address to deliver messages for this administrator to:"
Does this email address have to be on my mail server, or can it be my .Mac, Gmail, etc. account?

Ah.. That question makes it a bit clearer... No, it does not have to be on your server, it can be any internet email address. Provided your KServer can send email out to the internet properly.
