Terminal Services Console session via Kaseya

  • We are beginning to use Terminal Services via Kaseya to connect to all our managed servers. There are numerous advantages not to mention the simple fact that TS via Kaseya runs MUCH faster and smoother than VNC.

However, the one thing we can't do via TS that we can do via VNC is control the actual console session that is logged in at the server. This can be very important at times since there might be a program running or alerts/popups may appear only on the console and nowhere else.

Terminal Services has the ability to connect to the console session (see http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;278845) but we're unsure how to do it when connecting via Kaseya.

    Is this possible?

  • With Kaseya v4.6.1 you now get a section with parameters for Terminal Server. Click on the Set Parameters function and check the Console Mode check box to run in the console session.

  • Wow, I completely overlooked those settings. Thanks. That's perfect. Very cool stuff.

Now if only we could disable the Silent remote control option...

  • I'm trying to get the console session of a win2k server but its not working, even with the console mode parameter on.

    Any ideas?

  • We've had it successfully work on 4 servers and unsuccessfully on 1 (the Kaseya server). It just shows a gray screen after trying to logon as the console user. And then eventually disconnects.

    MarioS,

What is happening when you try to connect?

  • It ends up openning another session.

  • It ends up openning a new session. The console session is running on the server with Administrator logged on.

Shouldnt it at least advice that it will disconect the local user y you continue with the session?

  • W2K Server doesn't support the /console switch - W2K03 and above only.
