Virtual Desktops

  • Hey all,

General question to throw out there:

Any MSP's looking at VDI, and if so do you have any opinions/experience with the different players?

I've been reading up on Citrix XenDesktop and VMWare's PCoIP. We're looking to see if 1) we can create templated upgrades/migrations for clients, using local hardware solutions, and 2) if it is feasible to run that in a hosted/cloud solution.

It seems a natural fit for the MSP environment, but would love to get other thoughts.

    Thanks in advance!

  • For SMB we've primarily stuck with HyperV and Remote Terminal Services with great success using both virtual desktops and terminal services, but for larger clients we've pushed VMWare View for various reasons, specifically VMWare's ability to better handle and control resources as well as scalability. VMWare View isn't an easy sell though, you really have to prove your ROI due to the higher upfront cost. We looked at Citrix XenDesktop before, but when we found most people using it were actually deploying it on top of VMWare, just didn't make sense to mix the two together.
