LAN Watch only gets partial list of computers from PDC

  • Hi,

I installed the agent on a PDC that has 8 clients attached and one other server. The LAN Watch only found the other server and 2 of the 8 clients. All the clients were powered on, but not necessarily logged into. Most did have a user, though.

I'm re-running the LAN Watch again, but has anyone seen this and is there anything I can do to a more accurate result from the LAN watch?

    Thanks!

  • Is every machine on the same local LAN?

From the console on the server running LAN Watch, can you successfully PING those machines? Perhaps the Windows Firewall or other firewall is running on he machines, thus preventing PING replies, thus preventing LAN Watch from returning data?

  • Yes - you can ping them from the PDC where the LAN WATCH was run from. Here's the results of the LAN WATCH:

  • Kent,

Hello. Do all of the machines have a proper corresponding Reverse DNS entry on the local DNS server? I am not sure if that would be the specific cause of your issue, but I have had some issues with LAN Watch in cases where there was incorrect/stale information in the Reverse DNS Zone. You might want to check there.

Otherwise, best thing to do would be to open a ticket with K Support.
