How to deploy "admin" rights

  • I know the title seems a little silly, but it seems that this forum is full of mentions of .... stop giving your users "admin" rights, and take away "admin" rights, etc....

It seems to be a recurring theme in several dozen threads.
I searched and did not find a "how to" thread.

Now I know that... since your an IT person, you should know how to restrict users "admin" rights.... I am sure some of you do. But evidently not enough of you.

I thought it would be a good addition to the forum to have a discussion ONLY on how to best apply account restrictions in ANY environment.

I know that persons and businesses with AD can restrict user rights. I hope some of you long time posters will put up a doc defining your methodology on the subject for all to see.

I do not worry too much about restricting user access in a domain environment. I worry about persons under management that DO NOT have a AD handy for whatever reason.... and thus cannot as easily be subjected to account restrictions.

Anyway... I thought it would be a good addition to the forum for everyone to chime in on how they restrict access to "admin" privs in any I.T. environment.

We typically use Group Policy in a AD environment. Customers without an "AD" is where is starts to get a little murky for us.

Has anyone come up with a good way to restrict access to users without an "AD"?

    Please post your thoughts Gentlemen.
