I'm upgrading from 6.2 to 6.3. We have a new 2012 server that the installation will be done on, and I plan to migrate the data to a new SQL server as well. Is there any reason that I cannot simply give the new server the same IP as the old server and let the agents update themselves automatically? Or would it be better to use a second public IP address and just update the agent config on the old server to push the next check-in to be the new server?
I have looked at the documentation. Maybe I should have asked if anyone has done it either way and would recommend one over the other. Poor method of asking on my part.
So, to re-phrase my question: Has anyone done an upgrade to a new server with the same external IP or used a second external IP for the new server that would like to share their experience on which they would prefer? We have about 1100 agents that will be checking in and I'd like to make it as smooth as possible.
