It is a high level overview of some of our core programs, with links to more information and to landing pages and more

Monitor Planned and Unplanned Server Shutdowns

Each time a Windows Server is shutdown, you are required to enter a reason for the shutdown in the Shutdown Event Tracker which is entered into the EventLog. You can use an Kaseya Event Set to monitor for these types of events and report on them in your Executive Summary Report.

In my example I am monitoring for Planned and Unplanned server shutdowns and reporting on how many of these there were in the time period covered by the Executive Summary Report.

The attached file is an Event Set that you can import into your Kaseya VSA. It's going to monitor for any shutdown related events in the System log and report them back to the Kaseya Server.

What you need to do now is to change the Executive Summary Report.

I added a Section Header called 'Server Shutdown' and then added a row each for Planned and Unplanned.

The configuration of the rows is looking in the Alarm Log for (Alert) EventLog alarms using a *(Planned)* and *(Unplanned)* Source Filter respectively.

The result is that you get information in the Executive Summary Report that looks like this:

It might be useful to know this type of information is case you perhaps need to investigate why so many Unplanned Server Shutdowns are occurring.

Workstation Policy to get you started

If you are not already using Kaseya Policy Management, here is a workstation policy that can hopefully get you started. Download the attached XML file and import it using the Import Centre. Now simply assign a View to the policy (All Workstations is a good start) and then assign the policy to Organisations and/or Machine Groups. The settings will get applied at the next Compliance Check.

The policy will configure the agent to perform the following:

Alert when Application Changes occur (Windows and kworking folders have been excluded)

Alert when Hardware Changes occur

Alert when less than 10% free disk space

Alert on any Error or Critical entries in the Application Log

Alert on any Error or Critical entries in the System Log

Alert when any Agent Procedure fails

Execute a Latest Audit Scan every day at midday

Execute a System Audit Scan on the 1st day of every month at 12h30

Execute a Patch Vulnerability Scan every day at 11h00

Automatic deploy outstanding Patch Updates every day at 13h00

When a Patch Reboot is required, ask the user every 30 minutes but reboot if no user is logged on

Disables Windows Update for machines using Kaseya Patch Management

When initiating a Remote Control session, ask for user permission but automatically approve if no user is logged on. Also inform the user when the remote control session terminates and require an Administrator Note before starting the session.

Please also have a look through the other configuration options available in Policy Management to further enhance your automation.

South Africa Public Holidays 2012 import for Service Desk
