These weekly sessions will run for approximately 50 minutes, and will include time for customer questions.

It features performance best practises, as well as a check list to find out where you may or may not be lacking

Are you using Trending Alarms?

When monitoring any Counters or SNMP Sets, you have the option to enable Trending so I thought I would explain what it is and how you can use it.

In a nutshell, Trending uses historical data to predict when the next alarm condition will occur.

A Trending Window allows you to specify how far into the future you want the calculated trendline to go and is typically the amount of time you need to prepare for an alarm condition.

If the trendline predicts that the Alarm Threshold will be exceeding within the Trending Window, then a Trending Alarm is generated.

For example, if you are monitoring disk space and it takes you 7 days to order and receive a new, larger hard drive, you will want to use a Trending Window of 7 days. A Trending Alarm will then be generated 7 days before the hard drive runs out of space (based on the trendline) giving you enough time to order and receive the new hard drive.

Trending Alarms will appear on your dashboards as an orange icon by default; they don't create Alarm entries in the Alarm Log. You can also generate a Trending Alarm Report.

So use Trending to be more proactive with your monitoring. Get a heads up when CPU and memory utilisation is becoming excessive and deal with the issue before it occurs.
