Backup failed - Image location, \\servername\share\, not available

KB#:  KKB000525

QUESTION

Backups failing with message "Backup failed - Image location, \\servername\share\, not available. Verify remote machine is turned on and Set Credential is correct."

This message indicates that there is a problem with the network share you are sending the image to. To verify this, go to Backup tab > Image location and run a free space check -it reports 'bad path' then it is likely that either the share is invalid or the agent credential does not have access to it.

ANSWER

Verify and correct the image path, or modify ACL to allow the agent credential to write to it.

Additionally, if this particular share is located within a '\Documents andSettings\User\ExampleUser' user account directory, please move the share to the root of one of the locally attached drives on this machine and share it from there instead and ensure that the currently set agent credential has proper access privileges to it.

APPLIES TO

  • If all of the settings are correct, I also found that Windows Server 2008 SP2 helped.
