Why is Virus Vault in View Threats showing no file path in View Threats?

In case you see “Path not reported”, it means that file was quarantined by E-mail Scanner.

Email scanner can be divided into two standalone parts:

Outlook plugin (avgxch32.dll) – You can verify the presence of plugin this way:

Open Outlook | Tools | Trust Center... | Add-ins (on the left) | Ensure "Exchange client extensions" is showing next to "Manage:", at the bottom of the dialog | Click [Go...]

Personal Email Scanner - avgemc.exe running as AVG E-mail Scanner service – this service is checking POP3 and SMTP streams

At least one of these parts has to be installed to induce the issue.

As the file is quarantined during the receiving process, there is no path to report. Infected file is stored in AVG Virus Vault and e-mail is delivered without attachment. Subject of the e-mail is modified to contain text ***VIRUS***. AVG do not delete such e-mails as they can be valid.

In case the E-mail client application is MS Outlook (with plugin installed), such e-mail is delivered directly to folder called “AVG Virus Vault”.

This issue is not very common as infected e-mails are usually deleted on e-mail server without delivering to client PC.

AVG Dev is aware of the behavior and currently working on a fix.
