This usually happens because the machine is unable to connect to AVG's update site over the Internet.
Please check the following logs for errors: -
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\ApplicationData\Grisoft\AvgXData\updXbin\avginet.log
C:\Documents and Settings\AllUsers\Application Data\Grisoft\AvgXData\avgXupd\update7.log
If there are connection failures, a reboot may be needed. If this does not resolve the problem, check that the machine has access to the Internet.
